The hard reality of Product Analytics and Analytics Engineering
WHO AM I a Product Analyst or Analytics Engineer?
For the last 3 years, I’ve been trying to figure out why it has been so hard for companies to determine what and where they wanted data to sit in their departments.
Were they going to sit in Product teams? Infosec? Maybe Marketing? Or wait, why don’t we just spin up an entire data organization?! No?
Ok, then let’s make it cross-functional. Let’s have an analyst just sit on each team, and any time they need something that analyst can just do the reporting.
I would sit in a lot of these meetings with executive leadership, and often I would switch and ask the more important question:
Do you even have data that we can use?
9 out of 10 times the answer has been no.
So here we are a few years later, helping build up this company started by
, and trying to convince you readers that regardless of which title, function, or result, analytics are only as good as the data you feed into it.So then the question comes down to - “What’s the point?”
1. Who Pungo, What Pungo, Where Pungo, When Pungo, and Why Pungo??
Alright slow down there, overly vivacious fictional reader.
Pungo Insights is your jumpstart product analytics services firm that can you get you from 0-1 faster than you can say, “ELT Data Pipelines.”
It was started a couple years ago by Robert Tseng as a way to bring product analytics to companies in a more structured and streamlined way. Since launching, Pungo Insights has serviced over 20 clients from various different “boring” industries. But we don’t shy away from the sexy stuff too :)
I joined earlier this year to help Robert scaled the operations and make sure that we can eventually serve triple and maybe even quadruple digit clients in the future. I am also a former Product Analyst and have helped 4 start ups build their analytics capabilities from the ground up. I truly believe that we can become the premier best Product Analytics firm in the world.
Ok, so why Pungo?
Robert and I have a combined 14 years of experience working in different industries and verticals, enabling organizations to leverage their data for decision making, auditing, and even gen ai! We’ve worked with all the major BI tools, and are constantly adding new and innovate software to are toolkit. So, if you have something that we don’t use, it’s not a never, it’s a yet :)
