Pungo embrace an identity we avoided for so long.

---

Even before putting it in writing, we were already on our way to becoming the go-to partner for data excellence powering disruptors in "boring" industries.

What do I mean by "boring?" I'm talking about operationally complex, mature sectors that, if you explained the nuances to the average person, there's a good chance you'd be met with a blank stare.

No offense intended! I don't actually find them boring; I see immense opportunity. Industries like utilities, manufacturing, and logistics are the backbone of our economy… and comprise the largest share of Pungo's portfolio.

As I've reflected on why this unexpected match has worked for us, it boils down to our three distinct advantages:

- Data Quality: Garbage in, garbage out. We get involved early by 1) laying out a master tracking plan to map out all data dependencies in a single source of truth and 2) setting up data capture with robust validation/testing practices.

- Historical Trends: "Boring" industries are sitting on heaps of data to identify historical market movements, seasonality patterns, and other fascinating trends. Clients win big when we can quickly provide data-backed insights to demonstrate domain expertise.

- Semantic Clarity: Decades of industry jargon can hinder data literacy within teams, as unintuitive terms are adopted without context. We push for modern data practices that emphasize clear and consistent language to bridge this gap.

---

There you have it! If you know of any team with a data bottleneck in a "boring" industry, send them our way.

Pungo launches your event tracking, data management, and customer insights function to transform data into a growth multiplier.

Stay tuned for more insights on how we're applying analytics for disruptors in operationally complex, mature industries.

Thanks for reading Pungo Insights! Infosec? Maybe Marketing? Or wait, why don’t we just spin up an entire data organization?! No?

Ok, then let’s make it cross-functional. Let’s have an analyst just sit on each team, and any time they need something that analyst can just do the reporting.

I would sit in a lot of these meetings with executive leadership, and often I would switch and ask the more important question:

Do you even have data that we can use?

9 out of 10 times the answer has been no.

So here we are a few years later, helping build up this company started by , and trying to convince you readers that regardless of which title, function, or result, analytics are only as good as the data you feed into it.

So then the question comes down to - “What’s the point?”

1. Who Pungo, What Pungo, Where Pungo, When Pungo, and Why Pungo??

Alright slow down there, overly vivacious fictional reader.

Pungo Insights is your jumpstart product analytics services firm that can you get you from 0-1 faster than you can say, “ELT Data Pipelines.”

It was started a couple years ago by Robert Tseng as a way to bring product analytics to companies in a more structured and streamlined way. Since launching, Pungo Insights has serviced over 20 clients from various different “boring” industries. But we don’t shy away from the sexy stuff too :)

I joined earlier this year to help Robert scaled the operations and make sure that we can eventually serve triple and maybe even quadruple digit clients in the future. I am also a former Product Analyst and have helped 4 start ups build their analytics capabilities from the ground up. I truly believe that we can become the premier best Product Analytics firm in the world.

Ok, so why Pungo?

Robert and I have a combined 14 years of experience working in different industries and verticals, enabling organizations to leverage their data for decision making, auditing, and even gen ai! We’ve worked with all the major BI tools, and are constantly adding new and innovate software to are toolkit. So, if you have something that we don’t use, it’s not a never, it’s a yet :)

2. What is this newsletter for?

So you get what we’re all about, so what is a newsletter going to be useful for?

Everything related to Analytics, especially in the startup and product analytics spaces, you bet that we’ll be up to date. We’re constantly figuring out new ways to add stuff to our stack and make sure that our clients have best of breed software.

Subscribe and follow us to stay informed about things that you may have missed!

Thanks for reading Pungo Insights!
